Generally vegetable dies are used to dye Tagua jewelry. After dying, they are kept under the sun for 2 weeks so that the color can be set properly. Then the nuts are polished with color sealers. It is important for the makers to preserve colors and control quality. But some greedy artisans dry it within a week without using sealers to increase production within no time. As a result, color loses its shine, looks bleached and fades away soon. If you are going to buy Tagua necklace, consider the production quality first. Some retailers may be offering some Tagua jewelry pieces for cheap but they may probably doesn’t followed all the steps and quality standards to preserve their original color.

Cleaning

Body lotions, natural oils and sweat can easily get stick on your Tagua jewelry over time and it may look old or dull. But you can easily clean them. All you have to take dry and soft white cotton cloth or t-shirt to clean and it will look like new. It is recommended to use only white cloth to clean the jewel because the chemical present in colored clothes may harm it.  Using wood cleaner is clear no-no because they have harsh chemicals which can remove nut die colors. You can renew your jewelry just with white cotton cloth and there are no collateral effects.

How to Avoid Insects?

Some manufacturers don’t treat or harden the seeds and nut before making them a jewel. They skip the necessary steps and this problem is caused. If it happens to you, all you have to keep the Tagua nut under the sun for at least 6 months, in order to dry the inner part completely and to remove water and eliminate all the bugs which might be living in it. If the process time is reduced by an artisan, the nut of bad quality is produced and it is likely to be the home of bugs because of humidity. Looking for more women accessories? Find Out Here
